Improving your public speaking ability is something a lot of people struggle with. Not only is it hard to stand in the center of everyone when their attention is all focused on you, it is harder to convince them and make them interested in what you are saying. Since the beginning of time, there were certain people who were able to use public speaking to their advantage. Great leaders, philosophers, teachers, and so many other people of the past have been using public speaking to get what they want. Now, how did they do that? Well, there wasn’t psychology or sociology or even neuro-linguistic programming back then, there was only words and delivery.

Back in the day, their language wasn’t as broad as ours since tons of new words have been adopted into the English dictionary every year. Sometimes we feel like our language has advanced too much to the point that it is almost impossible to know every single word that exists. Anyway, going back to public speaking. Even with a limited vocabulary, this does not give you an excuse to choose your words poorly. You have to be as specific as possible when you use words to describe something. Grammar and intonation are also very important. This is where most of us are on the same level. After all, almost everyone has had English lessons back in school. What really sets us apart is how we deliver our message. From the tone of our voice to the moments when we choose to pause, this is where the challenge begins.

There are a lot of ways to play around with speech. When you want to give emphasis, you tend to shout! When you want a thought to be played again and again in someones mind, you whisper. There are so many ways to say a certain word. The tone of your voice could determine if you are encouraging, comforting, reprimanding, and many other motives. Using the tone of your voice together with the volume of your voice wisely would work to a great advantage. If you want to draw people in even more, try whispering at a soft volume. There’s so many other ways for you to play around with language, you just have to learn how to execute them.

Although public speaking is about listening, public speaking also holds another important factor, public speaking is also a visual platform! Show people what you are saying. There are so many things you can do. Using your hands to even crouching around or maybe extending your arms or pointing at someone, there is just so much you can do to emphasize on your speech.
